3 Brand Awards I’m giving after Super Bowl 2018

Tonight more than the two best football teams will be competing for the championship trophy. As people gather around their tv’s nachos in one hand, beverage in the other, they will be watching major brands compete, fighting for the attention of their customers on a national stage. Super Bowl ad watching has become almost a bigger attraction than the game itself! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you run a small business, you watch the game and may dream of one day having the dollars to spend on a big ad for the nation to watch. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As awesome as this may be for you to have your own commercial, let me help you save some $$ on your future super bowl ad, because there are a lot of brands that are going to waste major bucks tonight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are my predictions for the ads that are going to win: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. ) Everyone loves a villain

A great movie has a good villain. Oftentimes the villain is what catalyses the hero to rise up and fight to save the day!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Brands create a memorable storyline when a brand can identify a villain they are helping equip the hero (customer watching super bowl) to fight.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Think of the Allstate commercials with the character called “Mayhem”. This is a great villain. We all remember this guy and and want to prevent him from wrecking our lives.

Look for the villains tonight. They will be commercials you remember.

Come back later this week where I will post: The best Super Bowl villain award. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2.) Creativity is great. But clarity is better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Super Bowl is known for brands pushing the boundaries with creativity. This is why watching the commercials is so much fun! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

However tonight as you watch you will see one or two commercials where a brand got too clever. You will have no clue what they were trying to accomplish with the commercial. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Remember, it’s not the best products or services that sell, it’s the ones that are easiest for the customer to understand. Confusion always costs companies $$ in the long run. So be on the lookout for that commercial that leaves you scratching your head! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3.) An ad is going to grab you deep down in the feels. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

At some point tonight everyone in the room might get quiet by a commercial that’s played. You might hug someone close afterwards, or sigh, or maybe even cry. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What this brand did was point to a philosophical problem their product or service solves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The philosophical problem says there is something larger going on. Somehow this brand is making a statement about how life ought to be for humanity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Brands who connect their products or services to an ideal create tremendous value to their customers and will create very memorable super bowl commercials!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Come back this week where I will post: The most heart felt Super Bowl ad award.

I’m excited to watch the game tonight! Most because I’m an Eagles fan! But also to see what brands stand out from the rest! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Come back later this week to see my awards!
